Jeannette Fromm's Portrait Procedure
Getting Started
Each commissioned portrait begins with a consultation to discuss the client’s portrait desires and ideas. Elements of the portrait such as style, setting, color preferences, size and medium are discussed. The personality of the person to be depicted, the clothing to be worn, and where the portrait will hang is also conveyed. The artist presents photos of her work and some sample originals to aid in answering questions regarding style and size.

Photo-Shoot
Artist can work from photographs provided by client, or schedule a photo-shoot. A photo session is usually an hour, to an hour and a half in length. During the photo-shoot, a camera is used to record a variety of poses and expressions, in varied lighting situations. 100-150 photographs are taken. The client and/or the subject are encouraged to offer pose ideas/suggestions. This is a fun opportunity to be part of the creative process. The artist will also take color notes.

At the Studio - Planning the Portrait
The photos from a photo-shoot are taken back to the artist’s studio to be studied, sketched, cropped, cut, and re-composed. A follow-up consultation is scheduled to discuss the artist’s recommendations and final pose ideas. After elements of the portrait are agreed upon, a contract is finalized and signed, so that all of the details are outlined for the artist and client.

A deposit of 1/3 the amount of the portrait is due when the contract is signed.

Creating the Portrait
The portrait is created in the studio using the photographs and color notes. Sometimes articles of clothing are borrowed so that the artist can capture special details, colors, and textures that the photographs may not reveal. Portraits take 3-6 months from the photo-shoot, to the delivery of the portrait. When the portrait is close to completion, the client is invited to the studio for final viewing (before varnishing). Delivery is arranged upon completion of portrait. Final payment for the portrait is due at this time.

The frame is an integral part of any work of art. Jeannette is pleased to assist with framing advise if client so desires.
